This weekend, I will start removing the hood, fenders, and front radiator support to get access to the subframe. I plan to order a rebuild kit for the front suspension (ball joints, tie rods, etc.) along with the six-frame to body bushings. While cleaning and painting, what else should I GET DONE while it's apart, or what should I replace while putting it back together? Suggestions and tips are what I am seeking today, folks.
Probably a good time to replace the old splash shields, other engine compartment rubber seals and, if you have a 400 or AC equipped Bird, do all the radiator to core support masticated rubber fillers. See Ames Firebird catalog page 240.
Don't worry about the "should I" my experience is plenty of "need to" will present themselves! LOL Honestly its a long list of possibles. It's like when you pull an engine.... well no that its out....
I also have a 1967 Porsche that has a factory disc on all four, and my thinking is to convert the drums in the Firebird to a disc as well. At one time, I read something that listed the parts one could pull from another GM car to swap out, but I can't seem to find that list now AUGHHHH.
I am not sure how I feel about a NEW kit on this car; I sort of want to keep as a period correct as I can.
