I changed the oil pressure sending unit switch and have a hairline crack across the oil pump housing. I think I wasn’t paying attention and screwed it in to far. Has this happened to anyone and you were able to patch the cracks and stop the oil leak ? If so what did you apply to the cracks? Having oil seepage and drops driving me crazy.
Ps What does it take to change the oil pump housing and r&r the distributor etc.
Not too hard of a job but I would recommend you find a new housing. Pulling the distributor and fuel pump is like any other V8 out there. You probably can install the entire assembly with everything attached but I take off the distributor and fuel pump the clear the area out. You’ll want to replace the cam belt while you are in there unless it was recently replaced. Jerry Woodland sells oil pump rebuild kits if you are so inclined. If you pressure is good I would probably pass. I carry a spare housing in my car for long trips so buying a spare is pretty common in our community. Most of us wing it when it comes to tensioning the belt, not too tight but not too loose. Make sure all the marks are lined up per the manual and you should be good to go.
Thanks hokie1984 going to try to find a repair Manual and I’m think over a decade ago I bought two oil pumps with housings off of eBay somewhere in the garage. Is there a certain brand timing belt you guys are using these days??
I recently bought one off Rockauto that looks ok, price was good. I think someone on PY mentioned they installed one and it worked fine. You might want to ask over there.
