I recently acquired a 1969 Trans Am and it is missing the rear axle bump stop assemblies on both side. I need the assemblies along with mounting bolts.
The main vendors have decent-looking repros of the bumper and bracket combo. The bumpers on them have somewhat different shape than an original that I have on my '68. My one original has a rounded edge that contacts the axle. The repros have a sharper tapered edge. Curiously, about 30+ years ago I purchased a used one from a Firebird/Camaro place to replace one that had the rubber torn off. That one has an edge between my original rounded one and the repro's sharp edge. Perhaps between the 3-4 years of Firebirds and Camaros that used the part there may have been variations that I am unaware of.
If you want, I can look up the sizes of the bolts in my parts book and post photos of my original bolts so you can see the sizes of the hex bolt's captured washers.
Nostalgia: I remember times my '68 would bottom out on rotten roads with four people in the car. The feeling of the axle pounding against those bumpers was shocking.
Thanks for the info. I was able to find out which bolts hold them in. Now need to find another couple of the lower bolts with right sized captured washer.
The repops are Camaro which is why they look a little different.
