Hi

1967 400 engine

I’d like to get a set of additional coolant temp and oil pressure gauges. I plan to get electronic. Where can I put the additional sensors on the engine if I want to keep my original dash lights? I’ve currently got the water temp sensor on the intake manifold next to the thermostat and the oil pressure sensor on the oil filter.
Thanks.

For oil pressure, there’s a threaded plug near the distributor that is supposed to be a good place to read oil pressure. The trick is getting the plug out. There as also not a lot of room under the distributor for a sensor

I assume you are adding fuel injection. If so, I am using the fan relay on my EFI to drive the temperature idiot light. Not sure that is an option for you but it seems to work good on my Firebird.

No fuel injection. Just want to add auxiliary gauges for more info.

I think these two spots (circled in yellow) are what I’ve heard may be options. Is this the oil pressure location by the distributor? The other spot on the intake is one I think I’ve read someone drilled and tapped for coolant temp. I was hoping to not have to go that far. Are there any other options? I think I also read that one could tee for the oil but that the coolant temp had to be a direct sensor into the liquid. Is this true?
Thanks all.

For the water sensor, does the spot circled have a plug that can be removed or is that solid casting? I can’t tell from the pic.

They started using that spot in 68 for the thermo vacuum sensor, before that there was no hole.

I thought so. Looks like no good options for an additional water temp sender with the 67 intake. Prob just need to go without an idiot light for water temp. Keeping the idiot light for oil pressure is a good idea if you can pull it off.

Thanks. I needed to confirm there wasn’t a sneaky place somewhere else for the water sender. That’s too bad. I’ll probably do as you suggested. Thanks!

Another option for the oil pressure sender is to put a "T" fitting where the idiot light switch goes, then you can mount both the switch and the sender down by the oil filter.
As for the temp sender you can drill and tap the boss on the intake, or replace the intake with a later stock or aftermarket model that has the hole already.
Another option on later engines is to mount it on one of the holes on the side of the heads just below the valve covers. But I don't think the heads received those holes until the early 1970's.
