I would like to put Cragar SS wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/A white letter tires on my car. I like the look, and this seems like a common application. I have searched this forum but can't find info on this topic. Feel free to direct me if it's there somewhere. Any recommendations for wheel size and tire size? I prefer something bigger than a 14" rim. I have looked for white letter tires that will fit a 16" rim, but they don't seem to be available, so probably go with a 15" rim. Current tires on the car are 225/50-R16. The tires are pretty much at the edge of the fender, so I know this width will fit. The attached photo is a "stock" photo from the internet that shows what I'm looking for. Thanks
Wheel and tire seems always hard to find with complete information. Many omit many of the details I am looking for, Rim, Tire size, BackSpace, fender lip rolling, drop, non-stock suspension, etc.
I have a stock 68 Conv 350. I currently have 225/70R14 on all wheels on stock 14" Pontiac Rallye II's (14x6) with 4.5" BS, 26.6" Diameter. I think my front springs are worn and I have had some scraping on the front wheel well moldings on heavy potholes while turning.
Reading other posts I have seen that 26" wheel diameter seems to be a good starting point and should work on the first gen.
I am putting disc brakes on my front wheels and going to 15" Pontiac Rallye II rims (15x7) and I want raised white letter tires too. I am looking to stick to around 26" tall wheel. There are 2 companies I have found for RWL and I only see 14" and 15" mostly.
I am currently installing RideTech's Street grip and I am looking at the following options (BUT I CAN'T CONFIRM IF THEY WORK YET)
Options I am looking at for the 15x7 with standard 4.5" BS Rallye II's. I am concerned about the drop that I expect to get with the StreetGrip springs and leafs. My biggest want is the width to get the most tire on the ground to for the most traction that will fit in the wheel well.
Possible sizes (I will update in the spring after I get the suspension on and the car off the lift) Front: 215/65R15 225/60R15
Many tire manufacturers have limited 14" sizes which sucks.
You can also get chromed Rally II's which look pretty cool on early bird's, I have Cragar SS as well, the old school look is best for these cars, not a fan of restorod crap and 18" tires on muscle cars, looks stupid, also depending on where you live and the roads the 18' and other big dia wheels are crap, you end up with no sidewall tires and they ride like crap and have limited handling capabilities, basically for flat city streets. I've always been happy with BFG TA radials, they handle well and last a long time and have good traction.
Just curious...what size wheels and tires did you end up using? I just swapped my original drum brakes for factory style disc brakes and need to step up from 14" wheels to 15"s.
