Hi group. I have a question regarding the front drum brake hardware on our 67. On this car, passenger side has the star wheel adjuster arm toward the rear. On drivers side, the star wheel adjuster arm is facing rearward. Does 5his sound right? Thank you.
Yes that is right. The threads on the adjuster are right and left hand threads. If you pull the non-threaded end off of the adjuster there should be a L or R stamped in the end of the shaft, you should unscrew and lube the threads and the other end of the adjuster with brake lube when you go back together.
One more question if I may, Is it true of the rear brake shoes as the fronts that the shoe with shorter lining always goes forward on the car and the shoe with longer lining always goes rearward?
And lastly, are the main pins (big pin on top of backing plate) for the drum brake shoes adjustable? I was reading that some early 60s pontiacs had those main pins whereby they could be adjusted to skew the shoe set either forward or rearward in the drum to better center them.
yes correct on the length of the lining, short to the front and long to the rear. The big main pin at the top is not adjustable that I have seen, it is actually a bolt that is part of the backing plate mounting to the spindle
