Found this 1" bolt on the garage floor below the engine. Probably hard to know exactly where it came from but any ideas where it might come from and how concerning? '69

Thanks!

Do you have cast iron exhaust manifolds or headers? It is just a guess, but the bolt looks like it could be an aftermarket bolt for headers. They often have a smaller head than the original bolts, to make it easier to access them.

It is a header bolt, they loosen and fall out quite often

Thanks for the replies. I found the header bolt hole that it fell out of. Is there anyway to make sure they don't fall out? I checked all others and they seem pretty snug. This one however would not tighten and kept spinning. Seems like the bolt hole is stripped?

Every time I am under the hood for anything, I always check them. They make different types of locking bolts. I would check how deep the bolt hole is and if you have room, you could get a bolt a little longer, some of them bolts are kinda short and do strip out the bolt hole

Header bolts are notorious for coming loose. Over the years I finally resorted to using Allen head cap screws that I had drilled, installed and torqued then lock wired. THEY did not comes loose again but it is a pain and takes a while to install. You don't want to go through all the work if you plan on pulling your headers for any reason.

Preventing the header bolts from coming loose is least of my worries now. Took it out earlier and think it threw a rod. Heard a loud bang, car shut off but was able to pull off into a parking lot. Noticed oil pouring from bottom.

When you get it all back together go with stock logs or long branch cast iron headers. Tube headers suck on Pontiacs
