Good Evening - I have purchased some Pontiac parts and in the parts is a 1968 Ram Air II block. IS there anyway to reverse the partial block VIN to the full car VIN? I would like to see the car and all the options the car had when it came out of the factory. Thanks

You can get close, but not the exact, to the full VIN by adding the first six missing digits based on the VIN Decoder at:

The only way that I know to get build details from a VIN is through PHS (Pontiac Historical Services) for a fee.

All Pontiac blocks are basically the same so how can you call a block ram air ? The the only thing that makes anything ram air are the heads

If it is one of the 110 RA2s in '68, It should have the WU (manual) or WT (auto) code and the date codes should be for about the 2Q '68.

Oops, I erred. The RA2 automatic is XT, not WT.

So other than a stamping there is not any other physical difference ?

From what I've learned, no, not until it gets built as a complete engine. For people interested in numbers matching, they can get closer to original with the as-built code. Without the original partial VIN, sequence number, dates, and other correct engine parts, they can only get close.

Most of the matching number engines were blown up in the 1970's
