I will probably be replacing my 68 rear bumper. How good are the repros? Are they as heavy and as thick as the original stock? My other option is to have mine straightened and rechromed at a cost of $300 to $850.
Thanks.

Having the original one redone would be bettter quality wise than any old repro made of foreign steel.

Your bumper will come back looking better than it looked in 1968.

I had my old bumpers straightened and rechromed for $180.00 ea, - cost a little more than the repro's(rear) , but like doug said real steel- better looking results.

Best bumper - wilmer tx.
will get you their number if your interested.

I saw repro bumpers sold at Carlisle last year. The tooling marks from folding around the license plate area were quite visible through the chrome. Quality varies, so there may be some that look okay. If you buy a repro, it's best to inspect it first hand.

Due to your unanimous response, I'm going to have my original bumper redone. I'd be interested to know who is good and who to avoid. I'm in the Memphis, TN area and have received quotes of $300 to $850 for minor straightening and rechroming.

If Vikki (and 68bigbird) are recommending it, then you can take it to the bank. I'll be sending mine their way when I have the funds.

There are a lot of rechroming shops. There are probably a dozen that do concours quality work when you order "show chrome". TriCity is one of them.
