Thanks to sixstarved, I now am able to figure out my RPM and MPH ratios. I've been looking at a "Richmond" brand six speed overdrive manual transmission as the possible replacement for the TH350 presently in my 69 Bird. The one I am looking at has a fantastic overdrive gear of 0.62 and a 3.01 first gear. I was hoping to find something with a slightly "beefier" first gear though. Does anyone have any suggestions on other quality makes of transmissions I might look into. Thanks.

These guys sell the Tremek 5 speed in a kit to fit our birds (actually camaros). The TKO-500 has a 3.27 1st and .68 5th.

The kit comes with a trans with a special shifter location that fits the hole in the tunnel, a drive shaft, cross member , and assorted other stuff.

The TKO 600 has a 2.87 first gear. I put one in my car and from what I've read, 5 gears is plenty for a high torque motor like a Pontiac.

I think I'd rather have the 2.87 1st gear, too. The 2.52 in my muncie works good with my 3.23 rear. Seems like the 3.27 would be like a creeper gear in a U-haul truck. If my muncie ever craps out I'd love to go with the TKO-600.
