I have a couple of open holes on my firewall and need to know which one to route the hood tach light through to hook up to the fuse box inside. I saw a manual brakes car at a POCI show last weekend that had it routed through a hole next to the master cylinder. My car has power brakes and the hole would be behind the booster. Can anyone with power brakes and a hood tach tell me if the hole is still located behind the booster or somewhere easier to reach? Since the tach was supposed to be dealer installed, I would guess they would drill somewhere much more accessible.
Second, I have a CA-delivered 400 coupe. The coil is definitely not in the right place at the moment. When I got the car it was mounted on the passenger rear of the intake on a tapped mounting boss. Not sure it is correct and wonder if anyone else has a CA V-8 to check the position of the coil? Here are a couple of shots of this area:
On the 68 the coil is mounted on the drivers side on the stem of the throttle cable bracket. can't tellif you have one from your photo but there is a stock bracket you will need. Off to work but if you give me your email I can send a photo tonig (as I never have figured out how to host a photo directly on the topic).
I think 68 was different for a couple reasons. The throttle was all rods and linkage plus the trans kickdown switch may have been different, electric in 67 v maybe electric in 68. I'll take a look, though. The e-mail is Younggs1@Gmail.com.
Here's the one for the '68 at any rate I just saw on ebay. My linkage is a cable from the pedal to the carb, not rods. I have a 4 speed so no kickdown...
Thanks for the picture. I do have the bracket that came with the car. It is in the picture showing where the coil was mounted when I got the car, much dirtier picture. The clean picture shows only the mounting boss where it used to be. I just need to know if anyone else has an original California Firebird with a V-8 which should all have the same coil mount. The air cleaner was different for CA cars along with the A.I. R. system. Thought the air cleaner might make a difference. Again, thanks.
