Any of the mofo-ers out cruising tomorrow night? I'm thinking I might head down to Hagerstown, MD to the Valley Mall for the Classic Car Group for Children Cruise-in.

I'm still in a box, but I'm hammering away.

keep working on it Amervo. I've noticed on mine, if I don't work on it, no progress! Birds are like that.

I managed to drop buy and take some spy photos. I think I found Tim's car, but no Tim. There were three Firebirds at the show and plenty of Camaros and Mustangs. All three Firebirds were nicely restored and looking proud.

Sorry I missed it! Looks like you had good weather for it too. I'm out of the country now - be back in a week. No firebirds here... frown

Yeh... top pic's mine. Sorry I missed you. When we got there, I had to feed the family. We ended up walking to Shoney's on the other side of the mall.

I think the 2 67's are regulars there. The convertible is very nice and all original/correct (as far as I can tell... the hood is never up on it). The hardtop has a BBC in it.

The main problem with the progress is that I have hit gridlock; I'm at the point where I cannot do much more without spending money. So I bit the bullet today and spent $153 on parts--Heck! I cannot even get the windsheild in without spending almost 30 bucks on sealer. Next, I'm going to hook up with Terry and see what he has in stock.

In order to drive the car, I have to have it mechanically sound and have it looking half way presentable. So I have 2 choices: Part with some money, or leave it on stands.

I was pretty sure that was your '69 Tim. We deciding to go at the last moment. I pulled up your album here just before leaving and recognized the paint scheme at the show. Sorry I missed you. No one was in their cars when we got there. I noticed the BBC in the red coupe. It was the only bird with the hood up, lol.

Amervo, you'll just have to bit the bullet and buy the stuff you need. Or leave the cosmetics until the season is over and drive it a little less completed. The 3M ribbon sealer is around $15 for one kit but folks recommend urethane around the edge to make the job last. You could probably get a 3M kit at Mattos. I plan to use the original rope sealer and skim urethane around the edge. If it had been completely urethaned in, I would never have gotten the glass out without ruining it.

Some of these sealers and adhesives need a $60 caulk gun to use them. The paint store at least loans them out. The panel glue is $33 each! Even sandpapers cost a fortune. I'm well over budget and I've stopped counting. I don't want to know. Red paint? I hope you've started a separate budget for that. It's the most expensive of all the colors.

I was thinking it was only about $15 for the 3M rope/ribbon too.

I've been told to stay away from the urethane. Urethane is for later model cars (80's and up) that use the windshield to strengthen the structure. It makes a solid, no-flex bond. Our cars weren't designed that way, and the windshields aren't made to withstand a lot of twisting and stretching. If you use urethane, the windshield will eventually crack or shatter as the body flexes.

It's one of these kits, and yes they call it ribbon sealer. A paint store such as Mattos or McHenry Auto Paints would have it cheaper than the local Autozone or Pepboys.

They make three different thicknesses. Replacement glass is sometimes a different thickness than original and the chrome won't look good with the wrong ribbon sealer. The last owner of my car used ribbon that was too thin. That put the chrome flush with the body and it looked kind of flat compared with how it's meant to be.
