Well its been 3 long weeks and tomorrow is the big day. Headed out for Virginia to pick up the new Convertilbe. As much as i hate to admit it i still havent seen the car in person yet. Sure hope its everything the thousand pics i have say it is and that the previous owner ive been talking to is as honest as he seems. Anyway, SO EXCITED, but a sort of nervous/anxious feeling as well. I have always been the first one to say.. "Never buy a car without seeing it in person first". I guess worse case scenario im only out my deposit but i sure hope this story has a happy ending.

Good luck! Sounds like fun. Limit your expectations and it'll all be good. And most important, stay at a Holiday Inn Express!

I already have my expectation of what the car must be. If it doesnt meet that expectation i will walk away and have learned another of lifes valuable and somewhat expensive lessons.

Looks great Thorpe!
Canandaigua? I go to Rome fairly often. Someday with my Bird. Are you gonna go to the Bird show in Saratoga (or was it Schenectady)?
It'd be great if you would come down for Flock of Birds 2006. ???

Thanks for the votes of confidence guys..everything ive seen in all the pics tells me i should be happy. (And from talking to the guy) I know the car is not a show car but my expectation is that its a very solid, clean car. Smitty..when is that show in Saratoga? I would like to go but its probably a long shot this year. Already have a bunch on the shedule for this year including the Adirondack Nationals out that way in Lake George...thats a great show. With a 3 month old baby this year is a little more difficult to get to them all.

Yeah, the show's in Saratoga. I'm in Schenectady. I'll have to bump that thread again.

Well I got back last night with car in tow. All went pretty well. Couple minor disappointments but i was able to negotiate for a lower price because of them. Overall its a very solid very original car. All sheet metal is very solid and all original... absolutely no bondo and no rust. Engine all orginal except intake, carb, altenator. Even still has faint crayon markings on the fan shroud from the factory. Pulled the carpets up last night (still glued down from the factory) to look at the floor pans and 3 of the 4 sections are still the blue from the factory and in mint condition. The driver front must have had water getting in from above somewhere as it needs some attention...POR for now and maybe replace that section at a later time...unfortunately. Be nice to keep ALL the original metal on the car but pretty spongy in spots and a couple pencil size holes here and there. This winter pull the motor and clean it all up and paint it. (WAs rebuilt 2 years ago but never painted...dont ask me why someone would do that  ) Have a leak around the oil filter and some other tinkering for now to deal with on the engine. Have only had it home for 24 hours so im sure there may be other things as well but i guess thats to be expected with 37 year old cars. Anyway, alls well that ends well and im happy with what i have and know it will be even better a year from now. So theres the full scoop. Oh and who member voted me recently and knocked me down to a 4... what'd i do... Oh well

Then I noticed I got knocked down too just within the last 2 days! And I can't find any reason why. Usually I'm here to help. Maybe it's a conspiracy?
Anyway, congrats again! Glad it worked out for you.

OK We all know who it is. Banned, but only temporarily. Did you really think a couple months would change him? He sold his Bird and he has only one reason to come here now.
Thorp, Excellent news! Concerning your one front floor pan; Something that you may want to do. You can buy a patch pan and use panel adhesive and sandwich it right on top of the original. If you only have some pin holes you can easily fill them in from below and then paint the bottom. This way you have as much original sheet metal as possible. You also have an extra strong floor in that weak area. Why cut away anything on a great, 99% rust free car?

Nice Car Thorp ! Sounds like the rust is minor. Hey Bjorn Im no longer an all-star either! Easy come easy go. Kinda reminds me of my kid its funny at first then its just annoying, this guy must not have something-anything better to do-or not. MIK

Nice car Thorpe -- a very nice find.
I too have fallen victim to the star bandit. Must be more than one bandit though, as it took a couple of blows to knock me down. Unless you can vote for the same person multiple times???
Ah well, so far it hasn't had any impact on the way my `Bird runs, so I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it.

Im not completely sure on the color. The car was originally Warwick Blue (with white top). It had the original paint on it up until last year when it was painted this color by the 2nd owner. He told me it was 1969 Code 25. I dont know if he knew what he was talking about though. I thought it was Windward but i guess im not sure either. Was hoping one of you guys could tell me what color it is.

There is no 25 for 1969 Firebird. I bet there is a 25 for a different model or year.
