I'm going to change the fuel pump in my 69 Firebird (350ci). Does this engine have the rod I've heard about that has to be pushed up out of the way before installing the pump? Some of the posts here refer to that rod as a Chevy only issue??? Also instructions that came with say "lower the camshaft to the lowest point of stroke before installing pump" is this necessary for my car? If so, how do I do this?

No rod, just Chevy. It has an arm instead of a rod. It's not necessary to lower the lobe. You may have to push a little if the lobe is on the high point. If it gets too difficult you could roll over the engine a little by hand with the belts while you are installing it to make it easier.

Thanks Mike. Good luck! It's an easy job. Trick/tip; Get some bolts that are a 1/4" longer to get the pump started in the right direction. Walk it into position. When the longer bolts start to bottom out switch them one at a time with the original length. It would help get you lined up if the lobe is on high point. This isn't necessary but it would help.

It is possible to get the arm over the lobe, and pushing it won't ensure that the arm is under the lobe. When you install it, make sure that you aim the arm downward as you install the pump's arm through the timing chain; then, swing it upward into place.
