I was restoring my 68 400 aircleaner combo with chromed lid. Sent it for rechroming two times, first poorly done then fine rechromed but with a new dent... So I was afraid I would have to repeat the complete story again after getting rid of this dent because probably the chrome would chip off during straightening... By chance I found a new repro part at The Parts Place and it´s 100% accurate! Just in case you wanted to know... For USD 59.00 in most cases it will get cheaper than a rechromed one. Please check at: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/newproducts.asp?curpage=11(lid was moved to page http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/newproducts.asp?curpage=148 -- please check topic below...)

I purchased one of thes about a year ago. I think they are very close to the originals, but the stamping is not quite as crisp as the originals. Did they change them since I purchased mine?

For obvious reason I can´t answer this question... Can only compare my original one with the new purchased. Concerning the latter stamping looks identical to the original one (to be honest: even better but that´s problem of rechroming. They weren´t able to rechrome/buff the inner fold as crisp as it was before rechroming). Nothing to complain about.

Jim, yes it is. I just checked the above mentioned web adress and obviously they have moved the page... So the correct page to find this lid is page 148 in section <New Products> (at least in THIS moment...): http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/newproducts.asp?curpage=148Hope they don´t move it once again and sorry for the inconvenience... If you want me to send you some high resolution pics of the two lids (original and repro) I could do so this weekend. Just tell me.

The one they pictured does look right. I'll take your word that it's a close copy. Nice and shiny for under the hood. Hang the original on the wall. Thanks!

I believe CI has the same on for that price as well. Has anyone had any experience with the one from CI? Is it from the same manufacturer?

Jim´s right. That´s the easiest way! Just open their website http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/ , then click on "New products" on the left side and then type in "chrome lid" and press the search button. The chrome lid CI sells is NOT the correct one! Regards Thomas
