I ordered all new springs, foam and covers for my 68 deluxe interior from Year One. Has anyone attempted to install these reproduction covers over new foam and springs? The foam seams like it is just too thick. I can't get the hog rings even close to fastening to the springs. I'm talking about the inner sides and front of the seat bottom where the pleats tuck, not the outside edge that wraps underneath. Any suggestions?

It will take some doing, but it's doable. It's best to work inside an a warm area. (Let the seat sit inside over night) Then use a hair dryer to heat the seat upholstery especially in the areas you have problems with... it's much more playable when it's nice and warm. Then you'll have to use your body weight, and work to streach it tight... and or have some one help hold it in place while you hog ring it... Make sure the foam is in place just right, and keep working at it... just take your time...you'll get it! Brett - 67 Drop Top 455! http://firstgenfirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=129

Didn't want mine to be loose, or tear my new covers. When I did my interior a few years ago, I had an upholstry shop put the new covers on the new foam. They also rebuilt up the back seat foam and put that cover on. Came out great. I think it was $300 or so. A little steep, but I don't think I am gentle enough to do upholstry work like that. A breaker bar can't used! Pics on my website: http://home.austin.rr.com/knuts/Projectknutshomepage.html Karl K. http://firstgenfirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=363

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it another go.
