I pulled my steering wheel yesterday and couriered it to a guy in Edmonton who'll be restoring it for me.

The job includes taking before/during/after pics which I will share here if you like.

Was your hub in bad shape? Mine is split AND warped where split. I was thinking of doing my own but I have a new wood wheel on for now so have time to save up some $ to have it done profesionally. Like to see some of the photos for sure, and the guys number or website.

David,

The hub was split in all 3 sections between the spokes and was, in some sections, more than an 1/8th of an inch wide.

Below are some pics that I e-mailed the guy to price the job. His name is Doug Lepak, "The Steering Wheel Guy" at:
http://members.shaw.ca/stwheels/index.htm

He said it would come back being "better than new". I hope it does.

Same issues as mine.

I did manage to back paint and restore my horn cover, and it looks great.

Yes, that is after I (sniff) let you have the other one!

I carefully scraped the silver backing off the faded red areas, and applied two coats of Sally Hanson "Seductive" red nail polish to the areas. Turned out perfect and looks good on my toes too smirk

File this under "WAY too much information"!!

Sometimes the most unorthodox things become the best applications.

Banshee.

The job is going to cost $600.00 Canadian, with the claim that the wheel is going to come back "better than new".

There's a lot of positive comments about this guy on GOOGLE. Search for DOUG LEPAK STEERING WHEEL to see some of them.

Well, I finally got my steering wheel back today from being restored. It truly looks new. It's incredible.

Check out the 'before' pix on Page 1 of this post. And here are some 'after' pix:

$600 Canadian?

Glad I have a Canadian girlfriend who has an address and a Canadian bank account.

I can't wait for the US/Canadian exchange rate to hit 40%.

Looks great for $600...I will definately be sending him mine.

Wow, he did a great job on your wheel! Told you the nail polish works, Dave. Thank my wife for that one. I restored all my emblems with it, but they were really pitted so I'll get new anyway. Yep, glad you let me "have" the horn button. It's on display in my living room until it goes in the Bird. Well spent $70.

Thanks all.

David,

His name is Doug Lepak in Edmonton. You can contact him at this e-mail address (most of his correspondence is done that way):

[email protected]

His website is http://members.shaw.ca/stwheels/index.htm

The things I liked about doing business with this guy were:

1. his responses were quick (within a day)
2. he stuck to his price
3. he delivered on time
4. he kept me updated on the progress
5. he's obviously a car guy (Mopars especially). In fact, he and I talked for about a half hour or so about parts he's found in barns and scrapyards.
