Well, after a pretty long hiatus the motor is reassembled and nastier than ever! I tore the motor down just after Thanksgiving due to a big loss in power and running warmer than normal even with cooler temps. I found 2 main bearings were chewed up and the crank was a loss. While it was apart I decided to go all out. Lunati Voodoo solid roller cam 248/248 @.050 with .630 lift. Comp Roller lifters, springs, 10 degree retainers, locks and new pushrods. I have yet to drive it, but as of last night it is READY to be driven. I re-installed the driveshaft, exhaust, and bolted the TC to the flexplate. So far no leaks anywhere.... Only thing left to do is align the hood, connect the fog lamps and the electric fan relays to the battery and it's ready to roll. Can't wait to see how this beast moves now.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byjwODsuHP4Drew

LOL! 295/35/18 rubber on the rear.
Thanks! It's idling at 1000 rpm in the vid. Need to drop it down a little and it will fall more when in gear. I'll be playing with it tonight....

It has less lope than the UD solid flat tappet it replaced. The UD was 255/263 @.050 with .611/.630 lift.

Old LSA was 108 new roller has 112. Motor was not making ANY noise. I noticed a steady drop in oil pressure over time and noticed a 15 degree increase in temp even when the outdoor temps were cooler ~50s. Also saw a little "glitter" in the oil under bright light. Turned out to be bearing material. #2 and #3 were chewed up pretty bad. Took the bird for a little test drive last night. I really miss the lope of the UD. I still have some tuning to do. Power was not quite what I expected. Stab the throttle at 40mph resulted in wheel spin, but I didn't stay in it at all.....will wait to put a few miles on it. Here it is through the exhaust. Didn't have time to mess with the idle or timing curve last night. Still idling just above 1000rpm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjUvVIvO4ccDrew

Well, it's rainy today, but I did take the car out for a little spin. Had to take my car by the body shop so the owner could see how a 69 nose goes together. He's assembling a buddies car.
Anyway,I'm getting a miss at 4000 rpm. At first I thought it was spark related so I checked the cap and the little nub that passes through the bottom of the cap had apparently gottne warm enough to melt the plastic a little. Put a new cap on it and still get the same thing. I changed the springs in the dist to get the curve right....little more power, but the miss at 4000+ is still there.
Next thing to change is the Fuel filter, I guess.....
I have to say, though....this thing doesn't make as much power as the UD solid I took out.... I didn't think the small difference in duration would make that big a difference. Wonder if it's the combination of roller cam and mediocre flowing ported iron heads. It get's to max lift faster and keeps the valve open longer. My heads flow 258/232 and was still climbing between .500 and .550, so it should make a ton of power....
Drew Still tuning....

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It does sound pretty nasty... Definitely a fuel issue. Part throttle I can run all the way up to 5000rpms without any trouble at all. Slam the throttle to the floor and as soon as it gets to ~3600 is starts sputtering. It does get from 1000 to 3600 in the blink of an eye. Can't wait to see what this thing will do with enough fuel!!! I tok the bird for a little ride yesterday....and again today. Ran very good....as long as I wasn't more than 1/2 throttle!!! I've been planning to switch to 10AN line...so this just gives me an excuse to go ahead and do it! Drew

Cool! Sunday I took the family to the baseball fields in the bird. Weather was GREAT car ran GREAT.....until I ran out of gas on the way home. Whoops! Gauge still read 1/8 of a tank! Wife was pissed because I "should know my car". Even though I've never run out of gas and haven't driven it much in the last 8 months.....I should know! Good thing I was only a block from the gas station. I'll be replacing the fuel line with a 10AN and will install a new sending unit when I do. Drew

This is the first time I've run out. I knew it was getting close, but didn't think it was completely empty!!!
Oh, well, now I know. Fill 'er up when I get to 1/8th of a tank! Atleast I'm gonna gain a couple gallons of capacity when I put the 10AN line in this weekend! LOL That 10AN line is HUGE!

10 AN line (size of garden hose) is now in the car from the tank through the 140gph Holley Black pump all the way to the regulator right next to the carb. The Regulator is plumbed to the carb with 2 8AN lines. New fuel level sending until and 10AN billet fuel filter will be here today!!! Just need to cut a hole in the top of the tank for the new sending unit and install the filter in the "gap" in the 10AN hose between the tank and pump. We'll see tomorrow how she runs with enough fuel over 3600rpm....I HOPE!
The 10AN pickup goes through the original top plate of the original sending unit. Had to cut everything off the original sending unit for the 10AN bulkhead fitting to work.

Yes that 10AN is like a garden hose. When I first installed mine I watched the fuel gauge drop a quater tank. Hope all goes well.
