Just looked at a 1969 LeMans Convertible today. Saw the car on in front of a house with For Sale sign and had to stop.
Wondering what I should offer… He is asking $15,000. He "needs" to sell it because he just purchased a 69 Chevelle SS convertible. (Nice car by the way…)
Here is a rundown of the car:
Current owner is the second owner (verified title) Midnight Green/Green int, Black top 51,000 original miles 350 2Bbl (vin # matching, XS code) 47 heads 3 sp auto console AC Shoulder restraint front seatbelts AM/FM radio (working)
Florida car Repainted in 2005 New power top
Sheet metal is dead straight and solid. paint is very good but could use a good buffing. Chrome is OK. I could not find any evidence of bodywork (rot filler). Interior has some fade- mostly in carpet. Trunk is clean and solid. Underbody is clean. Everything on this car is solid.
Unfortunately, I did not have my camera. I plan to head back on Sunday and will post pictures.
This guy will not sell it to any one if he feels they would clone it into a GTO. My impression of the seller is, he knows what he has. He is not a Pontiac guy, but he is a car collector. He was very forth coming with all information he had. Title, paint shop receipts, etc.
PHS is on its way
Any opinions greatly appreciated!
Mike

Offer $10000 see if he bites. Being a LaMans I'd go as high as $12000 if it's in sound shape. Check the frame for rot. A body frams were pron to rust. Sounds like a keeper!

Pricing seems fair for a solid metal car convertible. A relative got $10,000 for a rusty '71 base Chevelle Malibu convertible a couple of years ago. That one had a rusted frame and the belly was getting soft too.

"normal" selling price is +_15% under asking...which means you should probably offer 20-25% under... then you guys can meet "halfway" later

Well, got it up on a lift and looks clean. did find the the lower rad support is rotted on driver side directly below battery. Other than that car just needs a good cleaning and paint buff. Drives great.
Think I may offer $12,000. But 13,500 is my walk point.

I would be right where you are on price. Looks like a clean car from the pics.

Mike, from your pics of this Le Mans the owner is on the mark with his asking price if everything is working. Solid frame, clean underside and unmolested engine bay. I'd see if he bites at $13,500. That's a keeper!

There's a whole lotta 'original' on that baby. Really nice! As long as it's not full of bondo it's a great investment.

Hey, thanks for all the input on this. I offered 13,000 and he said he’d keep it. He did not want to negotiate and I respect that. The car is really nice and very original but at this time I just don’t think is at the 15 grand mark. He did say that his plan is to hang on to it until he can get back what he has in it. So, he knows that is not quite there yet... I suspect my offer was on par with an offer he had last fall. Since I was not specifically looking to buy another car, I would have only bought if I could make back my investment or a little more and that is exactly what he is doing. If anyone is interested I can pass on his contact info, location and all the pictures I have. He wont sell for anything less than $15,000! Mike
