Driver - 90 Ford Ranger, V6, probably 150 hp, top speed guesstimate 105
Firebird - 68 model, presently on roll-around stands which slow it down, but back when it was on a rotisserie it was capable of spinning at about 6 or 8 RPMs (depending on how hard I spun it), eventually will have a V8 with probably 350-375 hp, and will definitely have a top speed of more than 105
2000 Jeep grand cherokee 4.7, Darn thing is fast, Little faster than 400 bird I'd say. Bird hands down sounds better, looks better and ultimatly better babe magnet. (Name withheld due to wife)
69 RA III T/A Auto 69 Sprint vert 3speed ( sold to a new home) 69 350 coupe ( new home in Denver) 69 350 HO 4spd
Not sure yet. My daily is a 2006 Jetta GLI. Very fast. Can't even tell when you're cruising at 120 with a lot more to go. Cops can though. I'm hoping to get about 400 HP from my bird when it's done. Maybe it will be faster, but probably not even close to the ride and handling of the VW.
"faster" as in off the line or top speed?.. not sure in either case..havent had either over 120....so to answer the question , so far they are even
The old driver (94 Eldorado ), I had at 130 last year, the new driver , (2000 Volvo C70, low press turbo), not over 120 yet, the bird , been at 120 a few times...
Kind of a trick question for me. Right NOW, my Mazda 3, 2.6 daily driver is quicker. Once the bird is flying again, no question it will be MUCH faster.
68' Firebird 400 convertible, numbers matching, solar red w/ deluxe parchment interior. 66' Pontiac Ventura Hardtop 66' Pontiac Catalina Convertible
Here's a good one; My Birds are faster than my daily driver but my plow truck is faster than all of them! Sounds like it's one of those 'you are a redneck if' jokes.
1/4 mile or top speed? My old 68FB went 130-140 mph a couple times, but only mid 12's in the 1/4. 68 i have now probly wont go that high(never tried, and wont), but ran 11.79 @ 113 mph 2yrs ago. Hope'n for alittle better this year.
Growing up in the Chicago burbs, off the line/stoplight is my definition. Those nights in the late 60s, stoplight to stoplight was what it was all about.
'99 Towncar: never had above 110 mph '68 firebird 'vert: 130 this Saturday, then I chickened out. There was still plenty left. YOWWY!!!( Glad I got that out of my system)
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
Well My daily driver at home is a '05 VW Toureg V8 which moves. Ive taken it to about a buck 25 (125 MPH). I wish i could say my firebird is quicker but ive only driven her with a broken windsheild and litterally no Floor. I was able to flinstone my way if i broke down. I hope one day the bird will overtake the daily driver. I can only hope after the money im poorin into her.
Sad to say, but right now my daily driver is faster. It's a 99 Explorer 4L with from what I've been told 210hp. My 67 ohc bird just hasn't got any get up and go yet.
Al, if she is pretty then you don't need to worry about the get-up-and-go factor. Just drive that pretty bird around and enjoy all the looks and gazes you will most certainly get.
If you go too fast you won't notice all those envious people lusting for your car.
'68 428 HO M3 Monster, 4-on-the-floor! Need I say more?
the bird is up on stands but I was gonna put the wheels back on it to push it out of the driveway for some pictures; I bet I could push it about 5 mph. Hmmmmm, Civic still wins...
Our daily driver is our Firebird and the Bird is definitely faster than our other cars. Our other cars are a 1990 Honda Civic with a 1.5 engine and a 1986 K-10 4 wheel drive with a 4.3 V6. They are absolutely no competition unless you want to go hill climbing with the truck or compare gas mileage with the Honda. That they win hands down.
Classic birds all the way! Like Rock and Roll, they're here to stay!
