hi, searched on this and cant find the picture i was looking for, sure there was a thread somewhere, does anyone have a picture of where the exact location of the hidden partial vin is located, the one under the cowl vent, i went looking & could not find it, it may be covered in paint, but i thought it was on the metal lip & should have been visible when the vent was removed, i really need a photo of where to look, the vin tag is missing from a backyard restorer & the firewall hidden is not there either from a lhd to rhd conversion, i need to satify my curiosity of when this car was built & some if its strange options. thanks
ok, is it at the front or rear, nearest windscreen, because i am either blind or its not there, is it possible someone could take a photo & point to it with a stick, i really cant see anything that looks like a vin, i have also checked in the trunk on the lip to no avail. cheers.
It's not a full VIN, it's a partial. 1 or 2 numbers, one letter, six numbers.
On the upper surface of the cowl, below the right hand wiper, nearer to engine bay than glass. It's about 3/8" high, stamped into the steel. Generally "upside down" when viewing from the front of the car.
You know the VIN on a '67 is on the left hand door jamb, correct? With the conversion, it may have been moved, but it would seem that it should be there somewhere.

ok, thankyou, the vin in the door jamb is missing, lost, gone for ever, although i cant see the stamped vin in the picture, thank you for posting it, i will keep looking, someone posted a picture ages ago of where it was. i thought at the time, oh, thats where it is !! but now i cant find that post, i had the cowl vent off the other day & thought i would have another look with no luck, that is why it is annoying me again. cheers.
My bird was re-VIN'd in WI before I got it(WI replaced the door jamb tag) and they added some zeros and changed the "U" into a "4". I suspected it was supposed to be a "U" but I always wondered how bastardized my bird really was. Seeing the numbers on the cowl match my re-VIN,save the U/4,makes me feel a little better. I think I remember something about numbers on the rear but mine is so pitted if they were there they are gone now.
On a side note when I registered it in Oregon I tried to get them to correct the U/4 but they wouldn't...perhaps now I can try again.
the number on the rear should be just above the pumkin area. they r there but good luck hunting for that needle! the number for the cowl really rnt hard to find at all. if you were sitting in the middle of the frame rails you look at the passenger side and as long as its clean inside. the numbers will POP OUT @ u!

thank you yellowbird, i saved the picture & got an expanded view, i can now see the partial vin in your picture, i use a wheelchair so next time i have a friend around i will remove the vent panel & check for the vin again, will PHS be able to help id the car by only the partial vin or am i stuck. cheers.
We can tell you your complete VIN from the partial. The first numbers are predictable from the year and model. Here's a VIN from a similar car 223377u149196
There is another partial VIN stamped on the firewall either behind where the ventilation suitcase or the blower motor attaches - I can't remember now.
