Hi,
Could someone tell me what was the first year when Firebirds had a steering column lock? Was it introduced 1969 when ignition lock was moved to the steering column?
Also I am having difficulties getting my '68 Firebird registered here in Finland because there is no steering lock and it was a requirement in Finland from the start of 1968 . Are the steering columns of 1968 and 1969 (or whichever is the first model with a steering column lock) models interchangeable and how big a job is it to do this?

69 is the first year for the key column, steering and shifter linkage locks.

Check your laws about Foreign cars. A locking ignition was not available at the time of manufacture so you may be exempt.

'68 and '69 steering columns are not readily interchangable due to different wiring harnesses, and the presence of the ignition switch on the column in 1969 vs. in the dash on a '68.

Homologation sucks, I deal with it on a daily basis.
