Thanks for the fast response guys.... a couple of pics (of the few hundred the previous owner did) for verification and advice if there is anything special (deeper pan etc) about the tranny.

Yup Ausbird, you have a 2004R. Was thinking maybe why you dont have that forth gear is because the PO didnt put in an overdrive shifter conversion kit from SHIFTWORKS and your shifter still has the original 3 speed detent which would only give you 3 forward drive gears. There is a link on that page that shows you the difference in the detents for a 3 and overdrive speed tranny and you should be able to tell by looking at your shifter guts if you have it or not. Unless you have that overdrive detent, you will never be able to manually shift all the forward gears. Yes, you will have all the gears if you leave it in overdrive, but not by manually using the shifter. I put on on my shifter and it took me all of like 20 mins, very easy to do.
