You can see the back side of one in this pic. they go thru the metal frame of the dash, when you put a screw in them they expand like any screw anchor which seems to make them hold tight well enough.

Thanks Lee, that sounds about right as the ones listed on ebay are shown for a GTO as well, but once you view the whole listing they show that they are compatable for Firebird also. And sure enough, just checked AMES and they are listed under the 69 GTO/Lemans as dash nylon attaching nuts...... DASH NYLON ATTACHING NUTS LINK
