Hey thanks for the sites -- I didn't even know they existed.
Vikki - the carb is a Carter QJet from a 69 400 block, with the #4887S on it, apparently a replacement for the stock carb. I'm not even sure what the bowl vent valve is. Thanks for your help to everyone.
