Hi I've been toying with the idea of somehow boring/stroking/etc my pontiac 350 out to a 455. I don't know, however, how one might go about getting an additional 105 cubic inches out of my 350... if anyone could help me out on the parts needed to do so (and/or machine work) then that would be awesome. Also, if anyone knows where i might be able to find quality short block components for the 455 build that would be gratly appreciated as well. Thanks.
Brad, your best bet is to start with a bare 455 block and go from there. I'm in the process of building one now. If you can find a complete 455 short block, better yet. The crank is different for a 455. There are always a few on ebay. Walt
You'll never be able to bore a 350 block out big enough to handle a 455 piston. You can do all the crank work, but you'll end up with a long-stroke 350. (402 CID with a stock-stroke 455 crank ground down to 3" mains.) Might make an awesome tow-vehicle engine, though!
I pulled my original 350 HO motor because I did not want to blow it up racing, I also wanted a little more power. I went with a 400 block and did the Eagle stroker crank. Between the added stroke and punching the block out .030 I have around 460ci. My engine builder actually recommended the 400 with the stroker compared to the 455 because of the smaller journals so I could get away with reving higher. I only have two trips to the track with it and still have a lot of fine tuning with it, but my best run two weeks ago was 12.39 @ 108mph.
