I'm willing to drive the 1500 miles from Houston to South Dakota. Or wherever the meeting place might be for that matter. I am hoping that Geoff can send out a mass PM to all FGF Members so that everyone can be involved in the particulars of this. I have offered before, but will say again... I will do anything in my power to make this thing happen...

OK, I hope nobody gets angry with me but I have started legwork for
Estes Park, Colorado for our possible gathering location.
I contacted the Estes Park chamber of commerce and they are putting
together a list of possible locations for us to stay. I estimated the #
of vehicles around 50 (hope that is a good guess) Date will be the
weekend of Aug 14th (Friday through Sunday) If we want more days we can
work with that as well.
The lady I am working with will send me a couple different options and I
will share them with the group if that is OK with everyone.
The things I asked for were a venue that had rooms enough to handle the
whole crew and also room enough to grow to a larger group over the years
if we decide to make this an annual gathering. I asked for a venue that
has a banquet hall for a dinner so we can all gather together on one of
the nights. I asked for a place with a large enough parking lot that we
could have a show n shine one of the mornings (viewable by the public).
I asked for a place that is family orientated (pool/hot tub) for the
kids but also asked for a place with a bar as well for us that like to
tipsy a little. They are also going to put together a set of recommended
routes for scenic drives. They will also coordinate with the national
park to let us know of road construction so we can avoid it.

If I am wrong in any way for doing this please let me know and I will
back off. If I am forgetting anything as far as group things we could
pre plan too let me know.

Hi All,



The details for our inaugural "FGF Get Together" are starting to take

shape. Several of us participated in a conference call a couple of

weeks ago to start organizing what we expect will be a great event.

Here is a recap of our discussions thus far and a list of things we

still need to do:




* Location: We've decided on Estes Park, Colorado as the location

for our first event. This is a beautiful area with lots to see and do

for the whole family and is reasonably central for all of us. Estes

Park is about 90 minutes northwest of Denver and sits at the doorstep of

the Grand Canyon National Park. For more information about the area,

including a list of driving distances from other major US cities, visit

in the general area who have offered to help get things organized,

including David Meyer who has already contacted the local Chamber of

Commerce. We are soliciting quotes from local hotels to find out who

has the facilities we need and the best prices on room rates. More on

that later.



* Dates: August 13-15, 2010. This is a Friday, Saturday and

Sunday.

o We're still looking for ideas for Sunday activities. Maybe

another morning drive followed by some kind of closing activity Sunday

* Things we still need to do:



o We hope to attract some corporate sponsorships and perhaps

organize some fundraising activities prior to the event. We think the

majority of any funds we raise should be used to help pay for

fuel/lodging/travel costs for those who would have to travel the

farthest. We don't want anyone from our group to stay home due to

financial concerns (although we draw the line at paying to help someone

get their car finished!). Any excess funds would be used to cover

organizing costs and prizes for our Show-n-Shine. We need help from any

of you who would be willing to help contact potential sponsors and/or

organize fundraisers in your community (get your kids to do a

neighborhood car wash!). The more money we could raise the more

successful this event can be. Other ideas for fund raising??



o We need to nominate someone to handle the cash. Do we need to

find a way to open an FGF checking account? Anyone have any experience

doing something like this?



o We need a solid list of potential vendors who might offer

support/sponsorships. We will put together a one-page flyer that will

include all the important details of our event that can be used when

contacting potential sponsors/vendors. Do any of you know anyone who

has organized this type of effort for a similar organization? Do any of

you have good relationships with any of the key vendors we buy from?



o We need to contact other Firebird and Pontiac organizations to

spread the word and promote our event. Any volunteers for this effort?



o We need to decide what to call this activity. FGF Drive In?

Get Together? Road Rally? Something more creative? Please submit your

suggestions and maybe we'll have an online vote if we get multiple good

ideas. A good name will help us promote a successful event and

hopefully start a tradition that will live on for years to come.



o We need someone to create and maintain a web site that could be

used to promote this and future events. It doesn't need to be anything

fancy or elaborate. Any volunteers?



o It has been suggested that we might want to organize a few

activities for the families that will be traveling with us. We would

like to receive feedback and/or suggestions from those of you who expect

to have your family with you. Should we organize some activities for

you or do you prefer to do you own thing??



I'm sure there will be other details that we haven't thought of yet, but

this is a good list to start with. Most importantly, we want to start

spreading the word so everyone can mark the date and start planning for

a road trip next August! Please reply with your suggestions and feel
