I vote for Florida. Its got everything a vacationer could ask for. Beaches, amusement parks (where you can leave the wife and kids while you do some girl, i mean sight seeing), beautiful girls. Daytona Beach is where it's at.

Its pretty hard for me to commit, especially since my car has been unfinished for the last 10+ years, but this would be a great motivation to get it completed and take a family road trip to such an event. However, to have any chance to do such a road trip, we'd need to be able to make the round trip in about a week, so I definitely recommend a central location, such as Colorado.

Bob, keep Oct. 4th open on your calendar. My friend and I are putting on a car show/benefit for Journey's End Animal Sanctuary. The show will be in DeLeon Springs at Pin Ups Gentlemans Club. The show is from 12-4, then the club opens at 5. I am friends with the owner, be prepared to have a fun day!

Alright, is there a way to see the results of the poll?
I would like to start contacting some First Gen vendors, etc. Get some information about the highest voted cities and make it work.
About gas money, I'm going to save up for it but it will be worth the cost!!!

Paul Z I asked the same question but haven't gotten a response... I also spoke to Bjorn about perhaps sendeing out a message to ALL FGF MEMBERS via PM in regards to the discussion and the survey. He was going to PM to Geoff and find out. I have already spoken to several "sponsor" companies and filled out a few apps to the best of my ability without knowing when or where. Let's not let it die an early death! I, for one, will drive 750 to 1,000 or more for a good show. From Green Bay that could be Colorado, Nashville, East coast,or any where in that range. There is a reason that the Power Tour has been hanging around the mid-west, there are a lot of car people here. Went to a great Camaro show at Mid Ohio race track including some track time. Also had one at Pidgeon Forge Tenn. All we need is for someone to pick up the ball and run with it. Let's go, next summer will be here before we know it!!

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the silence these past few days. I've been watching the survey results come in with great interest. As of 3-4 days ago we only had 40 responses, but we're now up to 60!
Here's a summary of the responses:
Dates: The best dates are July/August 2010 or 2011.
Single Location or Multiple: 60% prefer a single location
Location: Loveland, CO was the most popular by far.
How Long? 50% said 2 days and 26% said 3 days.
A large majority prefers to do our own thing rather than coordinate with another event. In selecting a location, people just want somewhere nice where we can all hang out and take some nice drives, but they also want access to shopping, activities & recreation for the rest of the family.
So, it sounds like a two day event in Loveland, CO during July or August, 2010. Based on the early response, I would estimate a minimum of 35-40 attendees and hopefully twice that number if we get the word out over the next few months. We could probably do better if we put it off until 2011, but I'm afraid we'll lose momentum if we push it that far out.

Comments: for those taking a road trip in July or August in a car without air conditioning, potentially with marginal cooling, and a lot of miles, it could make for a miserable road trip for families. Not all passengers will consider it a thrilling experience and may force it to be a "once in a lifetime" trip instead of the start of a recurring event.
June and September tend to be more temperate months in the warmer regions, and still warm enough in the northern climes.

As said by Vikki, I may not go in July August , a 2 day trip in a vert w/o AC is pretty rough in Texas..w 95-100F plus sun...AND at that time of year , I will most likely be in Europe, since my kids and grandkids are on vacation then...only time worth visiting there...plus its hard to take 2 vacations for me in the same month or in two months after ea other...sept /oct would be lots better , but I can see october not being good for guys from up north...

There are pros and cons to September.Pros...the weather would be great for those driving in from west of the Mississippi...Cons... Number one, if this is going to be a "family" trip, most schools start in September. Number two,it might be a financially worse time to go due to school shopping... Number three, i just checked the weather up there, mid 60's during the day, low-mid 40's at night...BURRRRRRRR. If in October, the Northern folks will most likely be looking at snow conditions before leaving. I think August would probably work better...My 2 cents

Still on the "family" idea... Kids down here in this area (TX) have Spring Break in the middle of March, but again, probably a bit too early for the extreme Northeast...Sooooooooooo....Kids get outta school at the end of May? first of June...Do we dare put it that close? I agree on not pushing it out till 2011.

I'm willing to give anything a try..... At over 1100 miles, I'll probably have to trailer my car out anyway. The wife was always talking about getting an RV and going across country anyway. I'll just plan on making a few stops along the way, al la the Giswalds in "Family Vacation". If we're a family after that, I'll have to thank all the FGF members.

How about early June 2011. Many of us who are currently undergoing a restoration, may not be ready for 2010. A large outing like this could be better suited for the hot rod power tour? Plenty of stops along the way, and if car troubles persist, plenty of help? Thirdly, my family loves the bird and all, but I'm an not sure they would handle a long 16 hr drive for a weekend getaway. No cruise control, A/C for most, or any comforts of modern cars would make a long trip... and the "are we there yet?" every 2 minutes from the kids. OR I could be totally wrong... what do I know?

Update from yesterdays L list: OK, I hope nobody gets angry with me but I have started legwork for
Estes Park, Colorado for our possible gathering location.
I contacted the Estes Park chamber of commerce and they are putting
together a list of possible locations for us to stay. I estimated the #
of vehicles around 50 (hope that is a good guess) Date will be the
weekend of Aug 14th (Friday through Sunday) If we want more days we can
work with that as well.
The lady I am working with will send me a couple different options and I
will share them with the group if that is OK with everyone.
The things I asked for were a venue that had rooms enough to handle the
whole crew and also room enough to grow to a larger group over the years
if we decide to make this an annual gathering. I asked for a venue that
has a banquet hall for a dinner so we can all gather together on one of
the nights. I asked for a place with a large enough parking lot that we
could have a show n shine one of the mornings (viewable by the public).
I asked for a place that is family orientated (pool/hot tub) for the
kids but also asked for a place with a bar as well for us that like to
tipsy a little. They are also going to put together a set of recommended
routes for scenic drives. They will also coordinate with the national
park to let us know of road construction so we can avoid it.
If I am wrong in any way for doing this please let me know and I will
back off. If I am forgetting anything as far as group things we could
pre plan too let me know.
Be blunt, you wont hurt my feelings.

Estes is a good choice. We've been vacationing there for many years. Here's a shot I took of the downtown area when we were there last month: (BUt the Bird runs pretty sluggish at 8,000 ft.)
