Give your voltage regulator a good 'rap' with the handle of a screwdriver. The regulator is bolted to the upper part of the firewall. It is about 2"x2"x2" or so, and usually is gloss black. I've had this intermittent problem on my '67 since I replaced it. It acts up on mine every couple of months or so. I haven't replaced it because this high tech fix seems to work fine.

awesome, thank you very much, been beating myself up over it, didnt think of that, works great, wondering if i lay a hammer next to it, if it will behave, LOL, thanks again
For what it's worth, the problem seems to diminish over time. But it has taught me to really pay attention to the idiot light when I remove the key from the ignition. My mechanic buddy said this was a common issue with replacement regulators dating way back when.

Do you have a internal or external regulator? External is on the firewall, internal is in the alternator. If you have the internal, the diode has gone bad.
well, I guess the guy that said hit it with a screw driver, thanks
No problem. That'l be $49.99. I take cash!
