GM p/n 9785884 or 9789817 clutch fork return spring extension for the 4spd V8 does not appear to be available on the aftermarket. I have seen the recommendation that I buy a extension for a 6 cy (9785902) and cut it down. Has anyone seent the correct extension available and if not, do you know what the length of the V8 extension is supposed to be?
Ah. I was thinking of something else. Pretty sure I just expanded the last few coils of mine so it reaches. Not the way it's supposed to be I suppose, but it works.
I have this same problem too. Anyone know the correct length for the extension rod to be cut for a V8 car or have a pic of it already cut down? I have the 6 cyl one, I just need to cut it down now but I can't find a single picture or length dimension of what I need. ??????
I purchased the extension rod for a V8 through Classic Industries, and it was way too long....ended up cutting it almost in half then re-bending the end of it to form a new eyelet for the spring to fit into. I just "trial and error'd" it till the tension was close.

The return spring pulls the throw out bearing away from the clutch forks when the clutch pedal is released. Without it the bearing would make contact with the clutch forks and probably burn out quickly.
