I'm looking at a '67 400 4 speed car built in January, but the body tag doesn't indicate its a 400. The motor is correct apparently WZ, not exactly a detail that someone does when modifying their car.

Does anyone know if the early car's body tags noted all the options correctly? Could this be a dealer installed option?

Interesting that it has the single traction bar too.

If it's worth the investment on your part for the car, then it's worth the $$$ for the PHS documents. A lot of funky things can happen during 48 years of ownership.

Two things to check on that LH traction bar - if there is NO Riv-Nut into the inside face of the LH rear frame rail, then it did not leave the factory with both bars and probably did not leave the factory as a stick car. Also - there would be two studs through the rear floor pan under the seat that would be hard to either make go away or appear.

I'm with Mark on the PHS.

The difference between say that car being sold at numbers matching prices only to find out that it isn't is a lot of money.

AFAIK, the body tags correlated with the broadcast copy which correlates to the billing history....which then...PHS. I have never heard in 20 plus years any car that was a 400 or 326 HO that didn't have the correct code cowl tag.

I'd guess it's a pieced together car with parts from many other cars.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Thanks guys. I emailed the owner yesterday, explained to him that I doubt the originality of the car for a variety of reasons. He hasn't responded. Before this he was responding within hours. So, I'm pretty sure he knows the real story and is just playing dumb.

He's waiting for a sucker to come along that has no idea and isn't informed enough to do the work.
