Royal Bobcat 6K Tach... Much more useable for street use.. I guess GM just used 8K tach's because they could also be used for 6 OHV sprints..

Cool tach you have there. I don't understand the 8k reference to Sprints though. Sprints came out with a 6500 redline in 67, then were backed off to 5500 for 68 and 69.
Here is a factory tach I sold last year for a 67 Sprint to a guy for his.

Well the 6 cylinder engines generally revs higher than v8's ...
It would make sense to have a 8k tach for the 6 cylinder engines, but not really for any of the v8's.
GM proberbly just cut spendings so they didn't have to offer two different tachs (mechanically)..
