looking for exhaust manifolds that will fit my 1967 firebird. It has a 400 w/edelbrock performer rpm round port heads...bought Ram Air Restoration round port factory headers and there is no way the will fit. No room between the steering box and head...jacked the engine up 3/4" and still wont fit...Any ideas on why they will not come close to fitting? Extra info...the front sub frame is from a 1968 camaro, so its a 68 camaro steering box...research made me believe the steering boxes were the same for camaros and firebirds...all info welcome...Id rather not run headers...but if I have to, I have not been able to find any round port shorty headers...

Are you using long branch manifolds or the 1970 and up O port manifolds?

Sound like 70 and up. I have zero fitment issues with my round port long branch RARE repops w/Ram Air II heads.

Not to mention that repop round port long branch manifolds haven't been available in 6-7 years.

I think your problem started with the 68 chev frame.
Motor mounts are different and more.

My subrame is from a '68 Nova and I have a fast-ratio Camaro steering box. As long as you put the Pontiac OEM motor mounts brackets on the subframe, there is no issue there. I don't think his 400 would work with Chevy motor mounts.

Thanks for the comments...to clarify...of course it has Firebird engine mounts...the engine is installed...I have now realized that I do not have the correct round port headers...I need the long branch round port headers...not having any luck locating a pair...RARE is still trying to find someone to repair their casting...I also heard there is a person that casts some out of Detroit...but I cannot locate his name or contact info...

Agreed, few people know that DeLorean had his engineers alter the F body subframe to make it better and to fit the engines better, I think the Pontiacs sat higher

Round port long branch manifolds are not being re-popped at this time. A set was for sale here awhile back, 2.5K...

Interesting, perhaps why I've gotten a few PMs here and at PY forums about mine.

Did anyone solve this issue? Because I have all original 67 Bird, with power steering, and am just getting around to put in OE Ram Air Exhaust manifolds and I can force the manifold in but it is hard pressing against the power steering box. I don't see any way to adjust the 400 engine/mounts to get more clearance and prevent the manifold from being pressed against he power steering box. I welcome any suggestions.

These exhaust manifolds are Ram Air D port and not Ram Air I or later.

What I was wondering with in the other thread when I asked to see a full photo of them. I didn't know that manifold design was used in a 1st Gen Firebird. The longbranch type HO/RA in my '68 is close but does not interfere with the original steering. Maybe one of the guys here with multi-1st Gen experience will know if the one you have will fit.

Jim,

Thank you for responding. My bird is an earlier production but I am beginning to think I need the long branch exhaust manifolds like you show in your picture. The sets I have (matches 67 GTO numbers) hit the steering box and I can't seem to get even a 1/4 inch clearance. If you know of anyone with long branch for FB, please let me know. What I see on line are not number correct and well too much for my needs. Again, thanks for the input.
