I'm in the process of assembling my 1968 Pontiac 400 after a rebuild, and wondering if someone can recommend an oil priming shaft that will work on a 1968 Pontiac 400 engine?

I've read of some people making one out of an old distributor, but haven't found any references to an off the shelf tool that just works. I would prefer to not have to spend too much time priming the motor.

And yes, I know my drill must spin counter-clockwise to prime the oil system:)

I made one for my OHC with a long bolt that I cut the head off. I then used a grinder to shape the end. The V8 distributor looks similar to the OHC so it should work. Use a slightly smaller diameter so it doesn’t rub the walls.

I think the same one that works for Chevy will work for Pontiac. So, there should be quite a few cheap ones out there.

I made mine. Used a Pontiac HEI housing, and a Chevy HEI shaft.

Takes a nice strong 1/2" drill to turn it fast. Had a good one, but it quit going counterclockwise. Bought a cheap one from Harbor Freight. It works, but just barely. Thought it might burn up, but it didn't. Got the job done.

I made one out of one of those cheap Chinese HEIs I was running in my 428 until it started to fall apart. Before that I used a 1/4" rod that I flattened one end of in my bench vise. I spun it with a 1/2" cordless drill.Had to be careful but worked.
