I was performing an under chassis inspection yesterday to check overall condition and determine what needs repair/replace and discovered the park brake cables are rubbing on the floor pan and starting to fray. I checked the service manual and I didn't see protective sheaths over the cables, just the exposed cable. So now I am concerned that maybe the floor pan has sunk and taken the rear portion of the X frame support with it. I have attached a few pictures so you can see what I am talking about. Is this the way it should look or do I need to put a plate under the floor and jack it back into position before replacing the rusty floor pans?

That's normal. If it was sagging a bunch, you would see issues with door gaps.

The door gaps are perfect and doors open/close nicely. I can't believe GM would have the brake cables rubbing on the floor pan, should there be cable sheaths on them?

Mine hits that floor pan support area too. My original has no fraying, probably because I seldom used the brake here in the flatlands.

IDK, my cables appear to be original and I still use my parking brake. So if it worked for 53 years and counting, not too worried.

Well, thanks guys, I won't worry about it. I was more concerned if the floor pans were settling, and as they are not, I'll continue.
