Gus have you seen documentation on that inner spring? I have not seen evidence of it? It is not in the service manual or the parts list. It only shows the outer spring. There is a different yellow for 2 barrel carbs.

If you zoom in on the picture you can see the smaller spring inside of the larger spring. They occupy the same holes but there's two physical space Springs Nope. Single spring. No corrosion.
Maybe the heat has made the paint come off over the past 47 years or someone replaced it after the first 5-10 years?
Craig says it a shadow. Could be. But I have see the pair more than just the single. Perhaps it came out years later. I recall the sm dia spring made the carb held tight so idle speed was maintained. I believe the lg dia spring was for secondary's. IMO of course
