In tax year 2003, the threshhold for the top 1% was $295,495. Average taxes paid by these individuals was 34.27%, or $101,266.

In tax year 2006, the threshhold for the top 1% was $388,806. Average taxes paid by these individuals was 39.89%, or $155,094. The "rich" that you so despise, that build the economy that you've taken advantage of, that provided you with the funds to retire with a reasonable standard of living, had to pay 53% more in taxes in 2006 than in 2003.
